Colour Revolt (and other CMJ shenanigans).

Hi everyone, it’s Whitt. I’m back at work after a long weekend of CMJ. I must admit that I didn’t see near enough music this weekend. Bellury however was a trooper. He didn’t have a badge or any money, but he saw more music than most of the industry people. When necessary he snuck in, sweet-talked the door guys, or masqueraded as a crew member just to see his favorite acts. He’s truly a devoted music connoisseur.

Saturday night Bellury and I waited outside The Knitting Factory trying to get in to see Colour Revolt. The venue was sold out that night, and we thought we were gonna miss it. But alas, we both folded up a 20 dollar bill and shook the door man’s hand. 30 seconds later we were talking to Jesse, the lead singer of Colour Revolt.

I went to college in Mississippi with the guys in Colour Revolt, and when I knew them, they were named Fletcher. I remember hearing their Fletcher record around early 2002 and being wowed by it. At the time they were a bit prog-ier, and I loved it very much. Since I’ve moved to NYC, the freshly-named Colour Revolt have made quite a bit of progress, signing with a friend’s label (Esperanza Plantation) and garnering distribution through Tiny Evil for their eponymous EP. The fellas all make me very proud, and their music is some of the most honest, inspiring work I’ve heard in a long time. It was a pleasure to finally see them perform. If you haven’t yet, please check them out here.
