Lee Henley

I dreamed about you last night.
We were standing on a pile of my father’s ashes.
You told me you were alright
And that everything here, with ease, passes.

It’s nine AM. I’m walking to work.
It’s freezing outside and I’m dreaming again.
If I had it to do over I’d give you my coat,
So you wouldn’t freeze, my best friend.

Thank you for coming to see me last night.
It meant the world to me, and I’ve been waiting for you.
I no longer hope that you’ll come back,
But if I had that day to do over, I'd ask you to stay home.

I’ll be a father soon, and her name will be yours.
I’ll see you every day when I walk through her door.
I’ll give her my coat, so that she won’t freeze.
She’ll be my best friend, just like you, Lee.
