shouting out from the mountain

last night i went to see some bands at this place called monkey town for 'the world without magic' ep release party. i missed the opening act (jon wylie). the second band was called 'rooster' (website, myspace) who i really enjoyed. they reminded me of the earlier days of my friends akron/family with animal collective meets danielson vocals.

then came 'the world without magic' led by patrick bower. they play really wonderful intricate indie pop. i've been listening to their new ep today. the production is incredibly tasteful and provocative. patrick's vocals aren't easy to compare, the only thing i've been able to think of is early echo & the bunnymen (i.e. the ian mcculloch years). check out their website and myspace. it was family affair because two of the members of 'rooster' are brothers with patrick and everyone i met were nice people.

wanted to also say something about our friend tim's band 'the diggs'. whitt and i went to see them about a month ago at northsix and they were awesome. tim is a masterful guitar technician and they had an incredibly powerful sound, especially for a three-piece. their album 'commute' is great example of their sound. the first two songs 'it's just like you say' and 'everyone's starting over' are my favorites and show their range right off the bat. here's links to their website and myspace.

expect a website update today with the announcement of our next show. special thanks go to scott williford for his wonderful flash work. also will be posting a couple pictures from our last show at trash.

ok so there's enough links to keep you busy for awhile. i was thinking last night about our album and how it's basically a love song to a mountain. of course the mountain is a symbol or metaphor, but isn't that cool? it's nice to get away from the album to gain some perspective on it. i haven't listened to the record all the way through in a while and i feel like that's letting me gain some objectivity to it's innerworkings like i haven't ever been able to.

that's it for me. gotta update our website now.

blood on the floor

so my hand is almost healed. i built a baritone tele guitar last year. it has the older style bridge on it, i forget what it's called. maybe i don't have something set right, but the the damn sides of the bridge are raised higher than the strings. it literally slices my hand at every show. i need to get a different bridge for it, but i don't have time nor the money right now, so if you come to our next show and i don't get my tax refund that i've been waiting for.........look for it. it will probably happen during the bridge of our new (untitled) song.

Another show under our belts.

So we played another show last night. We had an 8 o'clock spot at The Trash Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We had a great deal of friends there, which is always a good thing. A very special thank-you to Brian Jackson for letting us use his car. Also, thanks to Ryan McReynolds for once again saving our asses. Good people.

Our intentions over the next 6 months are clear to us now. Between now and August, we intend to perfect our live show and play millions of shows in the New York area. In mid-August, we shall begin radio promotion through Team Clermont. And in late August, early October, we shall rock the East Coast into the Southeast. We're all very excited about the prospect of a tour, and if there's one thing we're good at, its making ridiculously large goals a reality. The excitement is hightened by the prospect of playing in the South, 3/4 of The Station Myth's home. I look forward to calling ex-band-members in Mississippi and requesting their attendance.

Thanks again to all who came last night.

about the music

we got a super write up in a newsletter from toronto's 'about the music' on 89.5 fm (check them out). leanda had some amazing things to say about us. here's an exerpt:

"...songs like 'Buried In The Sound' start out with droning vocals that pan out to reveal a brilliant guitar driven melody and sharp savage drumming. You have to check these lads out...the record is beautifully recorded and a real pleasure to listen to."

really cool stuff.

in other news, whitt and fickle have been in miami for the week working on a shoot for an advertising agency. so things have been pretty slow. i'm waiting for my brother andrew to arrive. he's coming in a couple hours to hang out and then go to the show on monday. very excited to have him see us live. he was visiting back when fickle and i were trying out drummers before we met whitt, so drew's been with us from the beginning.

should be a fun weekend.
